When inhaled, nitrous oxide (or laughing gas) suppresses the central nervous system and slows the brain and bodily responses. Laughing gas triggers feelings of relaxation, happiness, and (sometimes) fits of giggles.

HOW IT WORKS

Our Westmont nitrous oxide dentists carefully administer this mild form of sedation dentistry for patients that need it:

BEFORE

Before offering dental sedation, Dr. Ahmed and Dr. Mohammed ensure that nitrous oxide would benefit your dental appointment. That said, nitrous oxide is an excellent option for most patients but should not be administered to patients with severe psychiatric disorders. It can cause dreaming and hallucinations if not administered properly.

DURING

Before treatment, Dr. Ahmed or Dr. Mohammed will administer laughing gas through a mask placed on the face. Then, the patient will breathe in the nitrous oxide to feel more comfortable.

AFTER

After treatment, we slowly administer oxygen to help the body safely return to normal. Since the effects of laughing gas are fleeting, you should be able to drive home and return to daily activities after your dentist appointment.
